October 2023 Newsletter

Happy October!

This is one of my favourite times of the year. The crisp air in the morning, the gentle breeze, the sweat underneath the turtlenecks, the crunch of the leaves, and the oh-so-mesmerizing colours. The beautiful changing landscape around us is such a transcending experience that I think for a second, romanticizing life becomes easier than any other season here in Toronto.

But this season feels a lot more special this year. I think one of the reasons why I look forward to this time of the year is because I don’t feel any pressure. There are no summer expectations, holiday plans still need to be made.

It is a start, like a cheat sheet for our goals, without the pressure of the new year. This time of the year has always meant establishing a routine and grinding to finish the job. Probably engrained in us from all our first days of school. Nonetheless, the changing of the new season represents opportunity. Opportunity to grow and challenge ourselves.

This past month, I have been working tirelessly on taking this clinic to the next step. As some of you may already know, Measuring What Matters has welcomed a new member to the family, and I cannot express how fortunate I feel to be in this position. The journey to get here has never been easy, something I have never shied away from. But, this step was a lot more different than any other changes I have encountered. To learn how to be a leader, take responsibility for another’s growth, and protect what we have worked for while still holding on to why we do what we do in the first place.

I am glad this change came at a time when nature is changing as well. To match frequencies with nature around you, can be validating in a more profound sense. So often, we look to our environment and blame it for what it does not offer. Rarely do we appreciate the significance of a simple leaf changing its colour.

So, as the famous saying goes, “You’re only here for a short visit. Take your time. Don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way,” I encourage you all to do the same. Take your time. Don’t worry. And be sure to look at the changing colours around you.
